  • When you want to get someone’s attention……Whisper.

This Weekly Me is about the art of listening.

Listening is an art and it is a gift that few people have the ability to truly do.  My dad was an excellent listener but when he was in the mood to talk he often lectured us on the need to listen.  It is the most important ability to have in relationships and business especially.

That kind of listening, although it is important, is not really what I’m talking about.  I’m talking about listening to what life has in store for us.  I’m talking about listening to the whispers that come our way that will ultimately lead us down the path of life that we are meant to be living.

Whispers.  These are words that only we hear.  They come through us and when we feel them we have the ability to hear them loud and clear.  They steer us and lead us down the path that we are meant to live.

Many times though they guide us step by step with no clear path in sight. They can be sweet and sour.  They can be comforting and overwhelming all at the same time.

The whisper helps us to understand that it is time to let go of a job after twenty years even though we have no idea what we’ll do next.

The whisper tells us to get out of a relationship that no longer feels good even though we’ll be without a the possibility of a date for a long time.

When we hear it loud and clear it will tell us to give up something we’re good at even though everyone else thinks we’re wrong.

They have the power to rock our world but only if we resist the urge to run in the other direction or ignore them.

They can make us want to take a risk so big that even we are surprised.

It can leave us feeling exposed and vulnerable because the challenge is accepting that no one else can hear what we hear.  This means that the choice we make as a result of what we hear may be met with resistance from others.  They will question why or even think we are crazy.

Here’s the most important part.  No one can hear what we hear.  No one can feel what we feel when we hear the whisper that comes our way.

Life is trying to get our attention.  It wants us to pay attention.

At the same time life often comes at us fast and furiously.  Time flies by and before we know it another year has gone by and we wonder where it all went.

So how is it we are supposed to even hear the whisper?

We have to slow down.  We have to shut down the computer and ignore the cell phone for just a little while.  This is necessary if only for a little while.

    Stop talking and listen.

When life wants to get our attention…. it whispers.

We’ll hear what we are meant to hear.

Let us know what you think.

    Until next time….

Devoted to Me begins with me and continues to you.  Accept it.  Pass it on.
